Our Mission
The mission of the Heard Museum is to educate the public about the heritage, living cultures and art of native peoples, with an emphasis on the peoples of the Southwest.
In 2005, Richard H. Silverman, President of the Museum’s Board of Trustees, articulated that goal by saying, “The Heard is a ‘living Museum’ and it will remain so as long as we recognize that the vision of Dwight and Maie Heard was not simply of an object in a glass case, but a culture brought to life through all available mediums, making itself not just accessible but relevant today and tomorrow.”
According to its Bylaws, the mission of the Guild is “To further public interest in the Heard Museum and to support and aid the work of its Board of Trustees and Staff.” In the pursuit of that mission, Guild members participate in the development of Museum services and in the growth of the Museum as a vital cultural and educational institution in the Southwest.
