Speakers' Bureau
What It Is
Las Guias (Spanish for the guides) is a group of Guild volunteers who have completed eight months of training to become docents at the Heard Museum. To expand their educational role, they formed a Speakers Bureau and developed over twenty audio-visual presentations about the Heard Museum and the American Indian cultures of the Southwest.
What It Does
Are you teaching a unit on Southwest Indians in your classroom? Would your youth group enjoy handling some items from the Southwest Indian culture? Could you use a power-point presentation as the bus takes your group on a field trip? Do you need a speaker for your next monthly meeting? The Las Guias Speakers Bureau can satisfy all of these needs. Experienced Heard Museum guides offer lectures, power-point presentations and hands-on programs to schools, community groups, service organizations, and businesses.
Each presentation lasts between 35 and 45 minutes. For the audio-visual presentations, the Speakers will bring their own projection equipment but may need to have a projection table and screen set up. For the hands-on presentations, Speakers will bring “touch-its” for the students to handle.
