Investing in the Future
Make an investment in the future. On April 9 through 13, 2010, the Heard Museum Guild will be hosting its annual American Indian Student Art Show & Sale. Over 1,000 pieces of fantastic artwork by budding young Indian artists will be featured.
Providing an Opportunity
This event provides an opportunity for Indian students in grades 7-12 from across the country to publicly display their art, have it judged by professional artists, compete for ribbons and cash awards, and, potentially, sell their works of art. Many professional artists got their start at the Guild’s Student Art Show & Sale. Elizabeth Whitehorne-Benally, a professional artist and Student Art Show graduate said it best. "We open a little door for them."
In addition to the cash awards given to the student winners, proceeds from this event also underwrite the Summer Art Workshop at Arizona State University West. This workshop offers promising student artists a week long campus experience of college-level art classes and studio work. For many, it is a life-defining experience that inspires their decision to finish high school and enroll in college.
Opening a Little Door
The Guild’s goals are larger than its resources. Your tax-deductible contribution will help give hundreds of students a chance to showcase their talent, win ribbons and cash prizes, become eligible for college scholarships, and possibly gain a spot in the Summer Workshop at ASU West.
Remember, a future artist is just waiting to be discovered! The Guild hopes you will decide to invest in the future and "open a little door for them."
