Youth Art Show & Sale

Calling All Young American Indian Artists and Their Teachers!

Mark your calendars for March 2-3, 2024 for the Youth Art Show and Sale (YASS) held along with the famed Heard Museum Guild Indian Fair and Market at the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Arizona! More than 19,000 people attended YASS and the Fair and Market in 2023 to see a spectacular array of work by both young and adult artists!

American Indian students in grades 7-12 are invited to submit their best original artwork. YASS provides young artists the opportunity to display their finest work at the Heard Museum, have their art judged by a professional panel, compete for ribbons and cash awards, and sell their artwork to a huge audience! Students from tribes across the U.S. participate in this show and sale.

A panel of knowledgeable art scholars judges the entries prior to the show and awards first, second, and third place ribbons (with cash prizes) in 13 art categories and two divisions (grades 7-9 and grades 10-12). Best of show, best of division, and other special ribbons are also awarded. The Youth Art Show and Sale has awarded more than half a million dollars to young artists during the years the show has been held.

Eligibility

If you are an American Indian between ages 12 and 18 currently attending high school or middle school, grades 7-12, you are eligible to enter the 2024 Youth Art Show and Sale (YASS).

There is no application or booth fee for YASS entrants.

Young artists can submit any form of traditional and fine art — pottery, baskets, jewelry, beadwork, weavings, paintings, katsinas, and sculpture, as well as unique contemporary works in creative media.

Under the Act, an Indian is defined as a member of any federally or officially State recognized Indian Tribe, or an individual certified as an Indian by an Indian Tribe. NOTE: If you are age 18, regardless of whether you are still in high school, you may choose to enter the Juried Competition at the 2024 Heard Indian Fair and Market as an adult. If so, do not use the YASS submission forms, but use the regular application for Fair artists. All Fair deadlines, rules, and fees will apply. You may only enter one competition: the Indian Fair and Market or YASS.

YASS Mission Statement: The Heard Museum Guild Youth Art Show and Sale will showcase and promote artwork created by American Indian youth in grades 7 to 12. YASS endeavors to encourage participants to value and market their work through their involvement with a world-renowned art museum.
