Docent Training Program

If you are interested in the history, culture, and creative expression of American Indian artists…
If you support the mission of the Heard Museum to be the world’s preeminent museum for the presentation, interpretation and advancement of American Indian art…

And, if you are interested in sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm with visitors from throughout the United States and around the world, consider becoming a docent at the Heard Museum.

The Las Guias Docent Training Class

The comprehensive hybrid training program (part online and part in person) begins on the first Tuesday of November and continues through April. Students gain a thorough knowledge of the history, culture and art of the American Indians of the Southwest and learn how to share that knowledge with visitors.

Upon graduation, the new docents become members of Las Guias (Spanish for The Guides). Las Guias members are required to conduct tours at the Museum at least two half days per month and take continuing classes on new exhibits.
